"The Journey"

In 1999 we were forced to relocate to a leased facility in Midtown due to the condemnation of our rent-free home of 18 years at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. This additional expense placed a significant financial strain on our program. Further, our program had grown significantly, resulting in space concerns. To address these concerns and to provide for long-term stability, we began a year long search, ending in September 2003 with the purchase of our buildings on September 26th, 2003. We have completed an extensive renovation and are pleased to be in our new facility.

The official grand opening and introduction of the AEC Employment Program took place September 14th, 2004. Close to 150 AEC friends joined to celebrate our roots, where we are now and how we plan to expand services in the future.

The Opening the AEC Door of Opportunity” was a landmark in our history, which began more than 25 years ago with a passion and dream from Rev. Reynell Parkins. With the assistance of the founding board of directors, from this dream, a vision with a mission took life. The support from the AEC Board, staff, and our friends in government, the foundation community and many private individuals continue to shape Rey’s dream, mission and vision of providing opportunities for self-sufficiency to Atlanta’s homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. We are now "Celebrating 25 Years of Service to Our Community"!

We once again thank all involved for being a part of our success!
