What We Offer:
-
Intergated Case Management: One of the basic reasons for our success is our intergrated approach to case management. We address the needs of the entire person (a holistic approach) and fortunately, because of our formal and informal partnerships, we are able to provide our participants with a single point of support.
-
Employment Readiness Training: This one-week program addresses the barriers to employment with a comprehensive life skills training program, followed by a personal case manager or coach, who helps develop an Individualized Service Plan and manages the participant's needs along the road to self-sufficiency.
-
Alcohol and Drug Screening: All who choose to enter the program are provided with an alcohol and drug screen, free of charge. Passing the screen provides a "leg up" in the job search. For those with alcohol or drug problems, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Specialist is on staff to assist in the development of a recovery program.
-
Transitional Housing: Through our partnership with the Gateway 24/7 Homeless Service Center, we are able to offer transitional housing and supportive services for three special needs groups: persons with substance abuse, chronically homeless and ex-offenders. Sixty-six bed have been allocated for these groups.
-
Job Placement Assistance: A professional Job Developer works with those who are deemed to be "job ready," to facilitate placement in a permanent job. The Job Developer also markets our program to the business community and assists the clients in the transition back into the workforce.
-
Direct Access to Atlanta Children's Shelter (ACS): ACS is one of Atlanta's best childcare programs. Through our partnership, we share a case manager with ACS, who focuses on family related needs.
-
Transportation Assistance: AEC supplies MARTA tokens and cards to participants for transportation to AEC while they are attending classes, for transportation to job interviews, and during the first week of employment.
-
Basic Computer Training and Typing: AEC, in a joint effort with the Fulton County Office of Workforce Development, offers a free basic computer and typing training class as a part of its Employment Readiness Training program. The objective is to bridge the technology gap by targeting individuals with little or no experience in this field. We provide the opportunity for persons to enter this field and either gain access to better employment positions or more advanced training programs.
-
Client Resource Center: The Center provides computers and Internet access for individual job searches. The computers are linked to the Georgia Career Information System (GCIS), administered through Fulton County Office of Workforce Development. GCIS provides skill assessment and resume tutorials, along with viable job leads through the Department of Labor. The Center also provides telephone for employment-related business calls.
-
Ex-offender Initiative: During the Fall of 2004, AEC initiated a pilot program to serve ex-offenders who constitute approxiamately 40% of our participants. This ex-offender initiative includes workshops and support group specifically gears this program to address barriers associated with prior felony records and offer job placement assistance. We are currently partnering with Georgia Department of Pardons and Parole to continue this service. Our Job Developer works with the graduates to find permanent jobs with "ex-offender friendly" employers.
